š We live in a modern world where the use of phones has become an integral part of daily life, even for the youngest ones. However, the question arises: when is it actually appropriate to allow a child to use mobile devices, and to what extent?
š The American Academy of Pediatrics states that children aged 0 to 2 years should not be exposed to smartphones at all. Children aged 3 to 5 years can use a phone for a maximum of 1 hour, while children aged 6 to 17 years can use a phone for up to 2 hours per day.
š² Excessive phone use can lead to numerous problems in children, including mental health issues.
š„ŗ One of the most common problems is reduced attention and concentration. Another significant issue is decreased social interaction. Children who are absorbed in their phones or other screens have fewer opportunities to socialize and engage in active conversations with others, which can lead to difficulties in developing social skills.
SOLUTION?
š The first and most important step is COMMUNICATION. Early in a child's development, before the problem becomes more serious, it is crucial to set boundaries on the use of smart devices. It is important to remain consistent with this decision. If the conversation happens later in the child's development, they should be informed about the potential issues arising from excessive smartphone use. These issues may include problems with attention and concentration, social interactions, or even physical health concerns. Of course, all of this should be adapted to the child's age.
